Family Tree...Fun While it Lasted

So, last week, Kelly introduced me to this really cool site called www.geni.com that she found through a friend at work. The site allows you to build a family tree on-line. Each person added to the tree has their own profile, very similar to www.facebook.com, where they can have pictures, video clips, personal information, important dates, etc. Right away I was totally addicted to this site. Learning about my family history has always been something I was interested in, but I never really had the time to start contacting all our various family members to learn this stuff. Plus, I wasn't even sure how I would document it all. This site seemed like a great, collaborative way to build out the family history and everyone could just add a few bits of information and over time it would be a comprehensive and growing document of our family. Well, unfortunately vanity and personal preferences seem to be bleeding in. It was brought to my attention that some of the family members are now going in and removing information like their birth dates because they don't want people to know how old they are, as if the family doesn't already know. I was asked if there was a way to lock down the information so people can't change it, but in all honesty that really kind of ruins the point of the site. Plus, I don't think that its possible. It's too bad people are more concerned with people's perception of them than they are about accurately recording our family history. It really has taken a lot of the fun out of it for me.

Avan

I just realized that I haven't really posted anything on my Nephew Avan. My youngest brother, Clay and his wife Danielle had a beautiful baby boy back in August. He is growing like a weed and seems to be full of energy. His little legs and arms are always moving. He is going to be crawling and walking in no time. Can't wait to see him in a few weeks. We missed him at Thanksgiving because they were in Missouri visiting Danielle's family. Here are a couple of pictures of him.
